Remembered Landscapes  : A life within

Exhibition EGAG March 2019

This work is part of an ongoing pursuit of making landscape paintings that have their own entity; a life beyond the object.

It is work that not only references the physicality, but also the spirit of landscape.

I approach my work intuitively with the painting evolving as I go. The subject is always there no matter how minimal but it becomes what is in my heart and head as distinct from the view before me.

Plein-air painting is engaging with the stimulus of the subject to convey the sensations and intrinsic qualities embodied in that place. It is characterised by immediacy and a freshness.

These remembered landscapes are responses to memory, some acutely visualised and well known. The accords of colour, shape, line, pattern, and the dynamism of mark are to be seen independent of representation.
